Latest news: APGA factional Chairman, Ozo Nwabueze Okafor dead

.All progressive grand alliance factional chairman, Ozo Nwabueze Okafor died yesterday morning by 8am after a brief illness at Niger foundation hospital Enugu.

Okafor's ally and political associate, the Assistant National Financial Secretary of APGA, Okecheckwu Nkolagu, confirmed his death, saying that Okafor died at about 8am yesterday being Sunday.

Okafor who is popularly known as "Okpochengene" was a former National President of Association of Local Government of Nigeria, (ALGON), and former Chairman of Enugu South local government council.

However, Okafor became the party's leader following the suspension of the embattled National chairman, Chief Ike Oye. But as the party was caught up in deepening crisis, Okafor was equally suspended with his EXCO members by Oye led group which further indicates that the party was headed for a major crisis ahead of the Anambra state guber election.

In 2015, Okafor contested for Senate in Enugu East senatorial district under the platform of APGA but lost to his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, counterpart, Senator Gil Nnaji.

Shortly after the election, Okafor was nominated as the APGA National Vice Chairman (south East) before he assumed the acting national chairman of the party when Ike Oye was suspended by the national executive committee of the party.

Though his family could not be reached for comments, but another political ally of the deceased said Okafor that okafor complained of weakness and was rushed to Niger foundation where he lost his life.
